A conventional 1950s 2-story bungalow no longer serves the clients who are looking for a balance between their existing home and a contemporary space to raise a family. Reconfiguring the upstairs into a private bedroom level, the living area is moved downstairs to create an open plan that steps down the site in order to connect to the outdoors. Meanwhile, the interior takes inspiration from cozy minimalism which provides a new, social center with warm finishes and sight lines linking the spaces for family living. Large openings fill the home with light while natural materials spill past thresholds to create seamless indoor/outdoor living.
